iolite, one of the birthstones of march, is a gemstone used throughout the ages by shamans and seafarers alike for visions and voyages. according to ancient lore, it helped guide scandinavian sailors by revealing the position of the sun on cloudy days. this abstract painting translates iolite’s mystique into textured layers and mixed hues of violet, blue, grey and silver.
